In Armenia, 610 people currently on ART, 4,440 new smear-positive TB cases detected and treated within the Global Fund-supported programmes.
Currently, the Global Fund supports 4 active grants in Armenia. Two of them are directed to HIV/AIDS prevention, one is for TB control and the remaining one is proposed to strengthen health system.
New HIV infections have fallen by 38% since 2001. Worldwide, 2.1 million people became newly infected with HIV in 2013, down from 3.4 million in 2001.
V. Brezhneva has visited Armenia with V. Saldanha, the director of the UNAIDS EECA regional office.
In 2013, there were 35 million [33.2 million–37.2 million] people living with HIV. Since the start of the epidemic, around 78 million people have become infected with HIV .
Tuberculosis-related deaths in people living with HIV have fallen by 33% since 2004. However, TB remains the leading cause of death among people living with HIV.
